raveMACHINE
« on: July 14, 2010, 07:27:22 PM »
Well, as time has gone by I've been having less and less time to work on this project.  So, I've decided to scrap anything I may have added to it to impress other people and make a game that I myself would enjoy.

That being said, I've reorganized the game and I have a few new things involved in it:

  • Very, very long songs, or rave mixes (45 mins tops) - combine songs together, use DJ mixes (Alive 2007)
  • Laid-back note scoring (some notes are more important to hit than others) - utilize fake notes?
  • Full albums of artists (daft punk, justice, fatboy slim, renard??) - each album has a custom game-play screen and intro in the theme
  • Two difficulties: Normal and Difficult - no fake note mode?
  • Mod courses for the longer songs - yeah

The long song thing is bound to make people hate me.  Most people lose interest in a song after the first 30 seconds or so, I doubt they'll last 30 minutes.

I know how to do everything here except for the fake note stuff, I'll have to figure that out..

Oh, and I have a video of it's progress (the theme).
I'm basing it off of the MGD2 theme for the sake of it was already pretty close to what I wanted in a theme.
All of the sounds and graphics and stuff will be changed, but the stuff I haven't changed is pretty obvious.

Okay, I have this system set up now that will allow for small download updates without an .exe file (just a package or .smzip):

Stub Theme:
Code: (GamePrefs.ini) [Select]
[dance]
Theme=stub

Code: (stub/metrics.ini) [Select]
[Global]
FallbackTheme=rave

[Common]
WindowTitle=raveMACHINE
InitialScreen=ScreenCompany
FirstRunInitialScreen=ScreenCompany

[ScreenSelectStub]
NextScreen=ScreenTitleMenu

Both Default and Rave Themes:
Code: (metrics.ini) [Select]
[ScreenSelectStub]
Fallback=ScreenOptionsSubmenu
LineNames=1
OptionMenuFlags=together;forceallplayers;smnavigation
PrevScreen=ScreenSelectStub
NextScreen=ScreenSelectStub
Line1=conf,Theme

[Common]
FirstRunInitialScreen=ScreenSelectStub
InitialScreen=ScreenSelectStub
WindowTitle=Select The Theme 'Stub'

And then a few fixes to the language file and BGAs, etc.

In effect, it forces (most) players to use the stub theme (which I would place in a separate .smzip).  Then I can just update the stub theme (a much smaller file) instead of the whole entire rave theme.

What do you think?  Overly complicated, or will it work?

Song List:
  • Each 'part' is one song that is playable in raveMACHINE.
  • Songs longer than 20 minutes WILL have mod scripts (only a few under 20 minutes will as well).
  • Songs marked in red are boss songs that unlock new modes or new albums.
  • Songs marked in blue are alternate songs not necessarily stepped to the music (in the traditional sense).
  • DVNO: Four capital letters printed in gold 'cause details make the girls sweat.
  • Sections of a song/part that are in italics are already being made, if they are in Georgia Font then they are done.

Progress Key
  • If just started then given half the percentage, if finished then given entire percentage.
